Shipwreck! Mistaken identity! True love! -not to mention: Singing! Slapstick! and Stage combat! Teens ages 13-19, may sign up now for the 2020 Winters Shakespeare Workshop (WSW). WSW is an intensive acting camp for teens, beginning June 14, and running for 5 weeks, Sunday through Thurs evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 PM in Winters City Park at the corner of 4th and Main Streets in Winters.
With support of a professional director, music director, and acting coaches teens will receive a daily blast of training as they work to create a complete production of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors with music on the City Park Playground Stage on July 17, 2020 and 18 at 8 PM.
Every year, lights, sound, sets, costumes, and a live band come together to support the amazing performances of each year’s team. Winters Shakespeare Workshop parent Nancy Adams reports that her teens “learned that they could do something they thought they could NEVER do -memorize all those lines, get up in front of a group, act, be scared and do it anyway -WSW was literally life-changing for both of them. …all the kids learned great teamwork in WSW. . .”
Winters Shakespeare Workshop began more than 20 years ago when Denise Cottrell and Mary Lou Linvill were looking for a way to bring some playful teamwork and performing skills to their own and other Winters teens by mounting a comedy by Shakespeare on the old Park Playground Stage each summer. With the support of gifted directors like Russell St. Clair, and Andrew Fridae; Music directors Laura Sandage, Andrew Hudson, Nicolas Carvajal; as well as amazing gifts of Lighting Designer Gary Schroeder, and Soundmen Richard Hemenway and Brandon Masteller, each summer’s production creates a new world that actors bring to life.
All levels of acting, singing, dancing experience are welcome. Participants should be prepared to work hard, make great friends, and unleash their collective creative performing energy to put on an amazing show.
Teens 13-19 sign up now for this summer’s production of The Comedy of Errors with music. Camp Fee is $250 . Scholarships are available.
