In 2019 the Yolo County Master Gardeners designed and installed a beautiful teaching garden at the Winters Community Library, in collaboration with the Yolo County Library, the Winters School District, the City of Winters, and Winters Friends of the Library.
The garden provides learning opportunities on low water use plants, plants that provide year-round habitat for pollinators, a space where visitors can sit and enjoy the garden, educational opportunities for school groups, a space to train community members in ongoing garden maintenance, and a place to hold workshops on a variety of topics.
Winters Friends of the Library provided initial funding to establish the garden, including installing irrigation, constructing pathways, and planting. We continue to support the garden with an annual budget.
The Master Gardeners, the library, and WFoL host workshops, plant sales, and other special events in the garden throughout the year. The Teaching Garden is open the same hours as the library, except in the evenings when it closes at dusk. Access to the garden is through the children’s room in the library.
