Thursday, February 29, 7:00 pm, Winters Community Library
Born and raised on a small organic truck farm in rural Yolo County, Thaddeus Barsotti grew up working on the farm and selling organic produce at farmers’ markets. When his mother died of cancer, 20-year-old Thad and his brothers had to learn the realities of doing business fast—they had to harvest and sell twenty acres of heirloom tomatoes and cultivate new crops, all in less than three months. Otherwise, they would lose the farm and even worse, their mother’s legacy.
Over the next two decades Thaddeus and his brothers successfully scaled the small farm, Capay Fruits and Vegetables, and CSA, Farm Fresh to You, to the largest of its kind, employing over one thousand people and delivering millions of boxes of fresh organic produce annually across the West Coast.
Thaddeus Barsotti will read from and discuss his new book,Betting on the Farm, at an author talk hosted by Winters Friends of the Library on Thursday, February 29 at 7:00 p.m. at the Winters Community Library, 708 Railroad Ave.
The book entertains with quirky characters and funny stories about the early days of California’s organic farming revolution. It also provides a window into the important struggle for a sustainable food system.
Admission to the event is free; donations will be gratefully accepted at the door. For more information, visit thaddeusbarsotti.com or wfol.org.
