Join us at the Winters Community Library on Tuesday, October 16 at 7 pm to hear Doctor Ed Dawkins talk about his new book Reckless But Lucky. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
About the author: Doctor Ed has lived in Winters for 25 years, and before that, in Davis since 1965. He was the first orthopedic surgeon in the Sacramento Valley, had a private practice in Davis for many years, and taught hand surgery at universities all over the world. Doctor Ed started life out boldly in a golden age, becoming a seeker of freedom, truth, beauty, caregiving and adventure in the latter two-thirds of the twentieth century. He lived powerfully, beyond the boundaries of normal convention, exploring the truth of his own vital imagination and being. Never satisfied with the scripted, Doctor Ed instead partook of the romance that dwells in everything. If life were a rodeo, Doctor Ed would be the bull, scattering and shattering the turf of convention, yet able to pause like “Ferdinand,” resting and pondering among the flowers of philosophy, truth and beauty.
About the book: Reckless But Lucky reflects an American life lived with a vagabond “damn the consequences” philosophy. Doctor Ed was born into a cozy and less regulated era in American history that perfectly incubated his free-spirited DNA and soul. Doctor Ed’s formula: passion, imagination and action, which has carried Doctor Ed to unimaginable twentieth century times, places and opportunities. From shark attacks to stampedes to traveling the world and crossing paths with the rich and famous, Doctor Ed has experienced it all. Maybe it was a fortunate alignment of his restless stars that magnetized him to action centers of immense caregiving, adventure and coincidence. Maybe it was just reckless luck.
Books are available online or at the Avid Reader.
