(Woodland, CA) – This September the Yolo County Library will celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month, to encourage parents, caregivers, and students to obtain a free library card that will help them reap rewards in academic achievement and lifelong learning. Anyone who signs up for their first Yolo County Library card in September will also receive a free tote bag.
Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children. Studies show children who are read to in the home and use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifelong learning.
“Our libraries offer a variety of programs to stimulate an interest in reading and learning,” said Mark Fink, Yolo County Librarian. “Early literacy story times as well as access to digital technology and digital tools, like 3D printers, GoPro cameras, and homework computers, support learning outside the school classroom. Online resources are also available with a library card and include ebooks, language learning programs, career tests, and article databases for research.”
