We are excited to announce the lineup for the 2022 Summer Concerts at the Gazebo. This is WFoL’s 23rd year of hosting concerts, creating community and supporting the library! The free outdoor concerts will be held on Thursday evenings in July, 7:00–8:30 p.m. at Rotary Park, Main Street at Railroad Avenue in downtown Winters.
The series will kick off on July 7 with local favorites Los Tres de Winters playing Norteño-style music, with accordion, bajo sexto, and bass. This lively music is a hybrid of Mexican and Spanish vocal traditions with waltzes and polkas brought to Mexico by Czech and German immigrants in the mid-nineteenth century. It evolved in the north of Mexico and is now a favorite style throughout Mexico and the U.S. Check them out on YouTube.
July 14 will feature Paddy on the Binge playing lively traditional Irish and Scottish music, including jigs, reels, hornpipes, and ballads. Between them the five band members play fiddle, guitar, flute, tin whistle, harmonica, bodhran (Irish drum), and Scottish pipes, and sing. You can get a preview of their music at paddyonthebinge.com.
On July 21, Back Porchestra takes the stage with original and vintage roots rock, Americana, Western swing, and country blues. Formed during the lockdown summer of 2020, the band features veteran Bay Area musicians who were idled by the pandemic and got together for informal outdoor gigs, including Tim Eschliman (Etta James, Commander Cody, New Copasetics), Bowen Brown (John Lee Hooker, Tommy Castro, Rhythmtown-Jive), Candy Girard (Delaney Bramlet, Tanya Tucker, Clint Black, Jerry Garcia), and Beau Bradbury (California Honeydrops). You can sample some tunes at backporchestra.com.
The series concludes on July 28 with Afincáo offering tasty Latin fare, including boogaloo, Cuban son, cumbias, boleros, and more. The band features seasoned performers with roots in rock, jazz, and rhythm and blues as well as Latin music. Their smoking hot percussion section, passionate guitars, and smooth vocals make the most of the complex Latin rhythms. Learn more at instagram.com/_afincao_/.
Invite your friends and neighbors, bring a blanket or lawn chairs or sit on the grass, sip a cool drink, and enjoy some fine live music on a summer evening. The concerts are free, but donations will be gratefully accepted. Winters Friends of the Library will have delicious refreshments for sale, and all proceeds will support the Winters Community Library. This year’s concert series is sponsored by Waste Management and Oates Country Store.
