Did you know there is a demonstration garden at the Winters Community Library showcasing low-water plants that do well in Winters? While the garden is always open during regular library hours, the Yolo County Master Gardeners are opening the garden Friday mornings for the rest of the summer from 8:00 to 11:00 AM starting July 23. We would like to invite you to come by for a visit and to bring your gardening questions. On Fridays, access to the garden is through the front gate located at 708 Railroad Ave. During established library hours, the garden may be accessed through the library.
The Garden is a joint project of the Yolo County Master Gardeners, Winters Joint Unified School District, and Yolo County Library. Winters Friends of the Library, the City of Winters, Rotary Club, Yolo County Resource Conservation District with Yoche DeHe Wintun Nation’s Community Fund, and Putah Creek Council have all contributed their time and funds in support of the garden. The garden was planted in spring 2019, expanded in fall 2020, and includes over 120 different plants. The garden has perennials, succulents, shrubs, grasses, and trees that provide year-round habitat for birds, bats, and pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. There is also a bat house with which we hope to entice roosting bats to munch on our insects. Why not start your Friday morning with a little nature visit?
