Two teams are already on board to compete in this year’s Winters Friends of the Library fundraiser, The Quiz Show, to be held at 7 pm, on Friday, February 23 at the Community Center. The Fabulous Fibonaccis and the Winters Theatre Company are readying to battle it out again after close competitions in previous years, with the Fabulous Fibonaccis besting the WTC team last year. There has also been word that the city of Winters will sponsor a team as well. WFoL will sponsor an all-high-school-student team for free.
There is a new category for this year’s game called “Second Line” contestants will be given the second line of well-known songs and will need to come up with the first line. An example is: “And show the world all the love in your heart.” The answer is “ You’ve got to get up every morning with a smile on your face.” (Carole King, Beautiful.) This is added to last year’s new category of Food and Beverages. These additions have been suggested by participants in previous years. There are now 13 categories including Geography, History, Science and Nature, and John Donlevy’s favorite, Winters Trivia. Being a Winters Library event, there are also many questions about Literature and Poetry.
To get in gear for the event, WFoL will hold two practice evenings, Sunday, February 18th and Tuesday the 20th at 7 pm at the Downtown tasting room of Berryessa Gap, using old questions from previous years. The practice is free and anyone may join in.
Teams of five will pay an entrance fee of $100 to try to win the prize money of $300, and get their names on a perpetual trophy proclaiming them The Winters Quiz Show champions.
Entrance forms and game rules are available, and fees collected, at the Winters Branch Library beginning February 1st. For an extra charge of $20, teams may sign up at the door the night of the event. Teams can be sponsored by organizations or businesses, or can be groups of smart friends willing to have fun. Single players may cobble teams together the night of The Quiz Show. There is room for a total of !0 teams, so it is not too late to sign up.
