Programs at the Winters Community Library in November 2018

November 4, 2018 By WFoL Admin

From our Yolo County Library Partners:

You are invited to attend the following fall programs held during the month of November at Yolo County’s Winters Community Library, located at 708 Railroad Avenue in Winters:

• November is Native American Heritage Month! All Yolo County Library branches will celebrate with displays, highlighting the history and culture of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, and recommended reading.

• November 1: Sugar Skull Decorating, 6:00 p.m. Commemorate Dia de los Muertos by decorating your very own sugar skull.

• November 6: Get Out the Vote! The Library is a polling location. Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. To find your polling place, visit the Yolo Elections Office website: www.yoloelections.org. Vote by Mail ballots may be dropped off in the ballot box during library business hours until Monday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m.

• November 6: Yolo Shorts Workshop, 5:00 p.m. Explore new technology at our first GoPro Movie Weekly Workshop and Festival, open to all library card holders. Sign up to borrow one of our GoPro Cameras to shoot and edit your very own short! Camera check outs will be available daily through November 9. This is the final class of three.

• November 8: Winters Friends of the Library (WFoL) Annual Gathering 6:00 p.m. Meet the WFoL Board; listen to featured speaker Maceo Montoya, a local artist, writer, and educator; enter the raffle; and enjoy delicacies created by the Winters High School Culinary students. This is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved with WFoL and join their team to help to support the library, increase literacy, foster a love of reading, and enhance community culture. All are welcome to attend.
The following ongoing programs continue in November:
• SUCCESS: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 p.m.
• Needle Arts: 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 4:00 p.m.
• Libros y Chisme: 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.

The library will also revert to the School Break schedule November 19-25 due to the Thanksgiving Break and will be open as follows that week: Monday and Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Tuesday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Thursday and Friday: closed for Thanksgiving; Saturday: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sunday: closed. School In Session hours resume November 26.

Food for Fines & Pay It Forward: The Yolo County Library is offering residents and library card holders two opportunities to feed and support their communities this holiday season with ‘Food for Fines’ and ‘Pay It Forward.’

The first opportunity is through the Library’s annual “Food for Fines” program that allows library card holders to clear $1 from their Yolo County Library overdue fines for each nonperishable food item donated at the circulation desk of any Yolo County Library location. The program runs November 13 through December 31 and there is no limit to the number of donations or reduction in fines cardholders can receive. Library card holders are welcome to donate even if they do not have any overdue fines.

The second opportunity is through the Library’s ‘Pay It Forward’ program that allows customers to help library card holders pay off their overdue fines. Customers are welcome to donate money and write a message on a star-shaped note that will be posted on a board behind the circulation desk.

Except where noted, all programs are sponsored by the Winters Friends of the Library, are free to attend, and no registration is required. For more information, contact library staff at (530) 795-4955, visit the Yolo County Library at: www.yolocountylibrary.org(see calendar for Winters Community Library-specific events) or connect with the Yolo County Library on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/yolocountylibrary.org.
