The Winters Friends of the Library summer concert series continues with a free outdoor performance by Tango No. 9 on Thursday, July 19, 7:00–8:30 p.m. at the Rotary Park Gazebo, on Main Street at Railroad Avenue, in front of the Community Center in Winters.
The San Francisco-based quartet explores tango music in all its myriad manifestations — traditional dance music, vocal ballads, tango nuevo, and more recent compositions — bringing an idiosyncratic twist to each. Since 1998, the group has delved deeply into the world of tango, performing tragic ballads and habanera rhythms at countless concerts and milongas, collaborating with many of the top dancers on the west coast, and recording two critically acclaimed albums. With violin, piano, and trombone and the unforgettable vocals of tenor Zoltan DiBartolo, the group presents a witty and elegant take on the most romantic and heart-breaking songs the world has ever known.
The performance is part of the Winters Friends of the Library 21st season of Summer Concerts at the Gazebo. WFoL has presented free outdoor concerts every Thursday in July since 1998. The series will continue with Boca do Rio playing Brazilian-American samba-funk on July 26.
Everyone is invited to pack a picnic, bring a blanket or lawn chairs or sit on the grass, sip a cool drink, and enjoy some fine live music. The Friends of the Library will have delicious refreshments for sale, and all proceeds will support the Winters Library. This year’s concert series is co-sponsored by Waste Management and Oates Country Store. For more information, contact Keith Cary at kcary@dcn.org or (530) 795-3173, or visit wfol.org
