Calling all designers! And designers to be…
The Yolo County Library announces a tote bag design contest for their 2017 Summer Reading Program themed ‘Reading by Design’ by iREAD.
The contest invites all artists and interested residents, ages 13 and up, to create a tote bag design reflecting iREAD’s theme, ‘Reading by Design’.
This theme is inspired by the creativity of authors, illustrators, builders, inventors, artists, architects and everyone who makes this world a more interesting, livable, accessible and beautiful place.
Participants should be inspired to explore their own creativity and design new worlds for themselves and for everyone.
Entry forms are available at the front desk of any Yolo County Library branch and designs must be done in black ink and include the text ‘Yolo County Library’ and ‘Reading by Design.’ Contestants can submit their design to the front desk at any Yolo County Library branch or by posting it on the Library’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/yolocountylibrary.org. Contestants can turn in as many designs as they would like.
All entries will be placed on the Library’s Facebook page and two winners will be chosen, one for the adult category (age 18+) and one for the teen category (ages 13-17), based on the number of Facebook likes received. The contest runs from March 1 through March 31.
The tote bags, displaying the winning designs, will be given as sign-up incentives for the Summer Reading Program, which runs from May through August 2017.
In 2016, 5,185 people from all eight library branches signed up for this program, which is part of a national effort to engage children and teens to use their literacy skills during the summer to prevent learning loss.
To help avert this ‘summer slide’, the Yolo County Library provides multiple opportunities for all ages to learn and engage in a variety of fun programs, such as Maker Space, tinker groups, arts and crafts, and more.
iREAD has successfully developed Summer Reading Programs since 1981. They provide high quality, low cost resources and products that enable local library staff to motivate children, young adults and adults to read.
